How to start working out at home

Staying active is one of the most important aspects of leading a healthy life. People have this concept that it's necessary to spend a lot of money on gym memberships and equipment and spend hours training.

The reality is that it is not. You can start exercising from the comfort of your house and without spending money.

How can I exercise in the house if I don't know where to begin?

When you don't have previous experience with exercise routines, it's complicated and even confusing to start alone from home. Luckily, there are many platforms where you can find exercise routines for beginners.

The first thing you need to do is organize. How are you going to incorporate this new habit into your life?

Set a specific time to do this. You do not need to dedicate many hours to it. With 10 or 20 minutes a day, it's enough.

You do not require to do it every day; to let your body rest.

How to decide what type of exercise you would like to do?

It helps to establish some goals first:

Why do I want to exercise?

What kind of results I'm looking for?

Once you know that, you can decide what routines or exercises you would like to do: cardio, strength, resistance, flexibility, etc.

Do I need special equipment to exercise?

Not necessarily; there are many exercise routines that you can do using only body weight.

It's most recommendable when you are starting. As you progress, you can gradually acquire equipment; this will also depend on your goals.

What type of equipment can I use in the house?

There are many different types of equipment to exercise at home. The most inexpensive are dumbbells, Russian weights,  resistance bands,  jump rope,  yoga mat, yoga blocks, stability discs, pilates balls, etc.

How to know where to begin?

Look for small and basic workout routines.

  • Avoid high-impact exercises.
  • Do not strain your body too much and modify the exercise to your conditions.
  • Always review the routine before doing it.

If you have no idea how to start or where to look for routines, you can download my workout plan for beginners here. Or you can check the fitness section of this blog for more workout routines.

Some things to keep in mind when exercising:

  • Don't exercise without having eaten at least 1 hour before.
  • Stay hydrated all the time; your muscles need water.
