11 Habits for a Healthy Morning Routine

How to create a morning routine to stay productive

The way we start the morning will set the tone for the rest of the day.

Have you ever notice how when you wake up stressed, in a bad mood, or complaining about having to wake up early, your end up having a bad day?

How you feel or choose to act in the morning will affect your stress levels and mood for the rest of the day.

Having a morning routine can help you set a better tone for the day, focus more on your work or activities and be more productive.

What is a morning routine?

A morning routine is just the things you do to prepare yourself to start the day.

What do I do for a morning routine?

There is no right or wrong answer to this question. Everyone's morning routine is different. It depends on your activities, work, obligations, and many other things in your life.

I am going to share with you some ideas you can implement for your morning routine. You don't need to do them all; you can choose which ones you like and even add your own.

Incorporate them one by one, give yourself time to adjust to a new routine. Don't try and change your entire process all at once; it might feel difficult for you to stick to it.

Morning routine Ideas

1.- Have a fixed bedtime and waking time:

Having a fixed time to go to bed and wake up every day can help you sleep better; it will be easier to wake up. If you usually have trouble falling asleep, creating a schedule will improve your sleep, and you can fall asleep faster because you are maintaining your body's internal clock.

2.-Wake up early:

I won't tell you at what time you should wake up it is up to you. But waking up early in the morning will give you more time to achieve more or relax.

3.-Make your bed:

Making your bed first thing in the morning will give you a sense of accomplishment; you already did the first task of the day, will make you feel good about it, and you will want to do another one, and so on.

4-Drink water:

Hydration is important! 60% of your body is water.

Drinking water first thing in the morning will help release toxins, activate your bowel movement, and improves your digestive system.

5.-Avoid the phone:

We are all guilty about this; the first thing to do after waking up is looking at the phone.

The problem is that you think you only look for a couple of minutes, and when you realize two hours have passed.

Try not to look at your phone only after you accomplish a couple of tasks, like a reward for doing the job.

6.-Meditate:

I love to meditate in the morning; it helps me focus on breathing and avoid negative thoughts. It is also good to reduce and manage your stress if you already know you will have a busy day. Take at least 10 minutes in the morning to meditate to start your day relax and in peace.

7.-Exercise:

Exercise is good for the body and mind also helps to relax and release toxins. With only 20 minutes a day in the morning, exercising can recharge your body with energy to start your day, clear your thoughts. There is no need for an intense workout; you can do yoga, walking, running, whatever feels good for you.

8.-Journaling:

Having at least 5 minutes in the morning to write has many benefits:  it helps you improve your mood, be more positive, increases your concentration, prioritizes problems, increases creativity, etc.

Things you can write about:

  • Affirmations
  • What you are thankful for
  • Things that make you happy
  • Positive quotes
  • Your emotions

9.-Have a good breakfast:

We all know breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Having a good breakfast will burst the energy you need to start your day. Breakfast interrupts the overnight fasting. It replenishes the glucose in your body and fills your body with nutrients.

10.-Plan your day:

I know some people prefer to create their to-do lists at night or over the weekend; but, creating planning your day in the morning gives you a better sense of what is a priority and what is not, and manage your timing better, so you are not in a hurry all the time.

11.-Take a shower:

Taking a shower in the morning can be what gives you the burst of energy you need to finish waking up and start your day.

Whether it's a cold shower (preferably) or a warm one if you prefer, there is something about it that makes you feel rejuvenated, relax, and ready to go.

I do some of these ideas for my morning routine.

Having an established routine every morning has helped me stay more focused and more productive and helped me be more positive.

Having negative thoughts in the morning is not how you want to start your day.
