How to improve your mental health

As we have discussed in previous publications, it is important that we have a balance between our physical and mental health.

In the same way that we worry about exercising, eating right, and going to the doctor when something hurts; we should give the same importance to our mental and emotional health.

Here is a list of a couple of things you can implement to improve your mental health.

* Remember that these are just some ideas or tips, but you can do the ones that suits you and your daily routine.

10 habits that will help improve your mental health.

1.- Go outside: Spend some time outdoors, sunbathing, put your cell phone away and enjoy the moment with nature.

If possible go to a park, beach, or somewhere where there are fewer cars and more nature.

2.- Better Sleep: Establish a schedule to go to sleep and get up.

It will make you rest better and will be easy to wake up every day.

It is essential to sleep well to recover from daily activity.

3.- Healthy body: A good diet and exercise are the key to good physical health and avoiding diseases.

4.- Change negative thoughts: We all have negative thoughts from time to time.

Every time you are aware of a negative thoughts, try to transform them into something positive.

An activity that can help you leave these thoughts is meditation and writing in a diary.

5.- Don't struggle alone: If you feel sad, upset, or are going through a bad situation, do not stay alone.

It is better to go with someone you trust to help you unburden yourself.

You can also opt for a therapist to help you better manage your emotions.

6.- Set goals: Setting short goals, perhaps daily or weekly, will keep you stay motivated to continue with your daily activities.

7.- Limit time on the cell phone or computer: If we reduce the time we spend looking at the cell phone on social networks, we can use it to do other activities that help us feel better physically and mentally.

8.- Work on yourself: It's not about self-criticizing, but you can take some time to observe what behaviors you could improve to be a better version of yourself.

Reducing negative thoughts is an example.

9.- Music: Music can be an excellent therapy if we use it correctly.

When you feel sad, instead of playing melancholic music try to listen to more cheerful songs.

By continuing listening to sad music, your brain associates this with feelings of sadness, making you will feel sad all the time.

10.- Stress management: Take the time to relax and release the stress of everyday life.

Although it may not seem that our lifestyle is causing stress, it accumulates and begins to affect us in many ways.

Take time to rest, perhaps meditate, slow down your activities and let your body and mind relax.
