8 Best Ways to Relieve Stress

Stress is a reaction of the brain and the body in response to physical or mental demands.

It can be caused by: work, school, a major change in your life, some traumatic event, etc.

Stress is part of our daily life; we cannot control what causes us stress, it is not something we can eliminate from our lives, but we can control how we react.

That is why we must implement activities and actions in our lives that help calm and relax our mind and body; these activities do not necessarily take a lot of time to do.

Some activities that can help you bring peace and tranquility to your life and that do not require a lot of your time are:

Exercise:

Although I mention it a lot, exercise brings great benefits to your physical and mental health. You don't need to spend many hours; with 20 minutes a day, it's enough to release endorphins.

Scented candles or diffusers:

Placing a scented candle or diffuser in your home or office is known as aromatherapy.

The use of these aromas or essences helps stimulate different parts of the brain, relaxing the nervous system.

Some of the most common scents that help relax are: lavender, bergamot, sandalwood, and even rose.

Laugh:

It is well known that laughter is the best medicine.

It's because laughter helps stimulate the production of endorphins.

Look for videos, watch a movie that will cause you to laugh and help distract you.

Writing:

Writing helps us to face our emotions, helps us to untangle those ideas that we carry in our heads since writing them down one by one helps us to order them and reduces mental hyperactivity.

It takes no more than 5 minutes a day.

Meditate:

Meditation can produce a deep state of tranquility and calm the mind.

It also helps you disconnect from the world for a few minutes.

You don't need to be an expert or have the experience to start, as there are many videos on youtube and free apps with guided meditations that can help you.

Be creative:

Creativity fosters positive thoughts and gives us a sense of well-being.

When we nurture our creativity, we feel happy and fulfilled because we are doing something we love and are passionate about it.

Some examples of creativity: singing, drawing or painting, playing an instrument, dancing or practicing a discipline, arts and crafts, etc. Some refer to these as hobbies.

Spending time with friends/family:

Human beings are social beings by nature. When we spend time with our friends or family, we surround ourselves with people we trust and with whom we can unburden ourselves, and having someone to talk to makes us feel good.

Spending time with friends after work or during the weekend helps relieve stress.

Having a pet:

People who have a pet at home have an "extra" opportunity to exercise, play, distract themselves or give our attention for periods to our pet, helping us disconnect from what causes us stress.

Spending quality time with your pet helps the production of endorphins, reducing stress.

I know it's not an option for everyone, but I still wanted to mention it for those who already have one or are considering it.

We all have different lifestyles and deal with different levels of stress. There is no single solution that works for everyone to reduce stress levels.

But there are several activities or actions that we can implement in our day-to-day lives that will help us reduce stress.

This post is only intended to give you some ideas to help you.
