How to Deal With Anxiety and Stress

Today's post is going to be a little more personal than usual. Because I´m going to share with you what I do to help me deal with stress and anxiety.

I have been dealing with anxiety since I was very young, and it has been a long journey and I know we all get stressed for many different reasons but when you also have to deal with anxiety it just makes it harder.

Trough the years I have tried a couple of different things that  helped me feel less stressed and calm me down when I get an anxiety attack.

The very first thing I would is to find a quiet place: I prefer to be alone in a quiet place because it makes me feel safe. If I am surrounded by people or noise it makes me feel worst. I try to find a quiet place just to help me focus on me.

Now that I am all alone I concentrate on breathing: Most of the time focusing on my breath will help me to calm down faster, all I do is I inhale deep, hold it for a couple of seconds and exhale slowly. This way my body fills with oxygen and starts to relax.  I don´t listen to anything else, I put all my attention to how I am breathing.

Something that I would do alongside my breathing if I can, especially if I am at home I will play some music, but not any type of music, I´ll play relaxing music I prefer the ones with water and rain sounds to help me forget about the world for a little bit  and just focus on my self.

There are many youtube channels where you can find these types of music.

Essential oils are also great for relaxing; if I had a hard and stressful day I usually turn on my diffuser with mint and lavender essential oils, and also I will place a couple of drops of the same oil on my pillow.

Exercise is  the key I found to help me be less stressful and fewer anxiety attacks. Because when I exercise my body reliefs all the tension and negativity I  accumulated during the day

Take a break: I know not everyone has the luxury of being their boss or work from home and take breaks whenever they want. But even if you can´t take a break from work or home duties take 5 mins a day, just for you: take a shower, listen to your favourite songs, watch a funy video, anything that takes your mind off the rest of the world for a couple minutes;  take at least one day a week off social media; social media drains you so much and must of the times makes us feel overwhelmed and causes us stressed.

Meditate: I am not an expert at this and I know lots of people recommend this and a lot of us don't know how to do it. But I try to find some guided meditations online and there are even apps like: calm, that helps you to do it. Taking a couple of minutes a day to meditate has helped me reduce my anxiety attacks.

It is ok to feel overwhelmed and stress sometimes, we are all humans, we all feel this way at some point. It is important to remember that is not your fault you feel that way, and that there is always a solution to make you feel better, take your time and don't rush it.

I hope these little tips help you to feel better and relax. All these work for me, sometimes I do only one, sometimes I do them all. Don´t stress out if something doesn't work for you, our minds and bodies work and react differently, keep trying and searching and eventually, you will find what works better for you.
